Mexico Targets Powerful Gang

Unit 3
Mexico is targeting a gang that has been infiltrating the mining system.  This gang is one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the world and has been smuggling iron ore to China.  The gang is called the Knight's templar, and they are very violent in obtaining their goals.  But the Mexican government took a big step in downing this gang last Monday.  Federal police agents and military personnel raided 11 holding cells where the gang was storing 119,000 tons of minerals and 124 pieces of heavy machinery.  Six Chinese citizens were also arrested on immigration charges.  An investigation found that the holding places were being used to store iron ore that others could obtain illegally.  The Chinese connection has been a big part of the gang's success.  Law enforcement officials have said that the gang is making China buy their product by using threats.
I think that this is a great thing that the Mexican government is doing.  Their seems to be a big problems with different gangs down in Mexico.  The more that they can get rid of, the less of a problem it will be.  I didn't expect one of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the world to be like this one though.  Their gang operation is very interesting.

  1. It is scary to think that a gang could get so much power in Mexico. It is good that action was taken against them, but I wonder if they might counter. I sure hope the United States national and local governments can keep gangs and other corrupt organizations from gaining a great deal of power. These organizations probably already exist within the US, but hopefully they can be identified and eliminated.

  2. I agree with Jason that it is scary how much power and fear the gangs in Mexico can produce. It is good to see that this operation has been stopped and that the government was able to do some damage to the gangs. I do wonder if this angered the Knights Templar and if they will try to get revenge. Gangs really need to be stopped and gotten rid of in all ways possible.

  3. I agree with everything that has been said. I think what is most frightening though is not the physical retaliation that comes from violence. While that is bad, and we do not want it, the slow encroachment on the power of the government through monetary power and sheer ability are what is most frightening to me. The drug cartels are so frightening because of the political power they have, not necessarily the brute force.

  4. Yeah I agree Tanner. I think the main reason the government wants to get rid of the drug cartels is because they know that they are really controlling the government.

  5. Drugs seem to be the problem quiet often and it is definitely one thing that is hard to manage. I happened to read the same article when doing some research and it really scared me because this stuff happens a lot. They are not all as big and influencing as many people but it is real and I think it is very important to team up and try to find a way to stop this kind of stuff! I also agree with Tanner. The drug cartels have so much power and really can get what they want which can lead to no good. It's not only scary but sad.
